So Much To Explore

The Star Wars universe is extremely expansive, vivid, and full of interesting subjects to explore. However, in the mainstream media (video games, television), we really only hear about the events that take place within the time periods of the movies. There are a multitude of time periods to explore in this universe but they are largely untapped except by those who hunger to know more about Star Wars. It is very rare that I meet a fellow Star Wars fan who have even heard the name Darth Revan, Nomi Sunrider, and Exar Kun. These characters have had a tremendous effect on the history of Star Wars and yet people who call themselves 'true fans' do not know their names. Here is a small list of time periods that I would like to see more in the mainstream.

1. 36,453 BBY - 25,096 BBY

This is the time that when the Je'daii order is founded. A time before lightsabers. And Heck, they even have Rancors with wings. This time period is relatively new for the creator of Star Wars content but this is a historic time for this universe. The Republic is still thousands of years in the future, the Rakatan's infinite empire still rules the galaxy, and the Je'daii still use the light and Dark side of the force. There are many stories to be told and historical events to set in motion during this time period. I would love to see this time period fleshed out in a game, or television series.

2. 7,003 BBY

This time period is known as the Hundred-Year Darkness. It was here when Ajunta Pall and other fallen Jedi created an army of beasts to battle the Jedi order. This war lasted a little more than a century, but in the end the Dark Jedi were defeated. All was not lost for them, however. They went on to conquer the planet of Korriban, where they also found the Sith.

3. 5,000 BBY

The Great Hyperspace War was fought between the Republic and the Sith Empire. This was is fill with many battles and many important characters  to the lore of Star Wars. To see characters like Naga Sadow fully imagined and realized would be a real treat for new and old fans alike. Not long after this war do we find the founding of the New Sith Empire that will eventually rise to challenge the Republic in The Old Republic video game.

4. The Legacy Eras

The Eras after the fallout of the defeat of the Galactic empire are more action packed than the Era of the films, in my opinion anyway. It is interesting to see the heroes that we know and love interact with new characters and stand up to new bad guys. These adventures expand even beyond the heroes of the films and their families. There are so many new heroes and conflicts to explore.

This is an gross oversimplification of the conflicts that are ever present throughout Star Wars, but as you can see there is no shortage of material. I would like to see new heroes, new villains, and new conflicts out for the world's Star Wars fans to see. I would love to hold long conversations with fellow Star Wars fans about more than just the films, the clone wars, and the video games.
